I said in my last post that I have some interesting video of a bear and a pack of coyotes. The bear video is pretty interesting because he (or she) does something I haven't seen before. The videos of the coyotes is more frightening than interesting simply because there are so many of them. I'm not sure I've seen a pack of this size before, and it makes me worry about walking the dogs out there...
First, the bear...
In this first video, you see him (or her) browsing on the grass (or whatever he/she is eating) in plain view of the trail camera.
In this next video, the bear continues sniffing around. Nothing too cool here, but it is good video of a bear (and I don't get those very often)...
In the last video of the sequence, the bear decides to climb the dang tree. Not sure what made him (or her) do it, but it's amazing how easily he (or she) pulls his (or her) big body up, and how gracefully he (or she) moves back toward the ground.
I've never seen a bear climb before -- other than on the nature shows you see on the Discovery or National Geographic channels -- and I've never captured the behavior on one of my trail cams. As I've said before, it's pretty cool to see this and know that it's all happening just a hundred yards (or two or three) from my cabin...
The coyote video is adorably frightening. Again, the thing that scares me is the number of coyotes in this pack. I'm thinking it's a mated pair with their offspring from this year, but I'm not sure...
In the first video, you see four of them. I love the way they sit and look out over the meadow. Notice the one that moves off a bit into the distance a bit as the video ends...
In the second video, you see five in the frame. With the one that moved off into the distance in the previous video, that makes six animals in this pack!
In the last video of this series, you see four of the six coyotes. Number 5 has moved off into the distance in the upper right of the frame, but you can't see him (or her). Number 6 lumbered down the hill to the left, but you can't see him (or her) either. Toward the end of the clip, all four are sitting, looking across the meadow in the direction of Number 6. That's the adorable part. They look just like dogs after their owner has told them to sit/stay.
Bonus video:
Wild turkeys...
Between the elk from my previous post, the bear, the coyotes and the turkeys, I think this was one of the better collections of video I've gotten since hanging the trail cams a couple of years ago. I'm hoping I get more the next time I head out there...
